The Beautiful Gate Educational Centre For The Disabled in Kampar was set-up in 1999. Its purpose is to provide educational opportunity for those marginalized disabled people especially those who have been deprived of an opportunity to education, and those of the younger age group.

Beautiful Gate aspires to provide the disabled an opportunity in education and enhancement of their living skills, so that they can lead an independent and meaningful life.

Our Need

With the increase of students in Kampar Centre, we are looking forward to the expansion programme so that more students can be admitted to Beautiful Gate Educational Centre.

There is a plan to build an addition of 2 classrooms, 11 bedrooms, 1 computer room, 1 recreational room, 1 kitchen, 1 dinning hall and 1 office cum teachers’ room . The budget for the construction and the facilities is RM300 ,000.00. We hope to receive your support and contribution to provide an opportunity to the disabled so that they can be integrated back to the society.

Some of Our Students

Lee Kean Onn, 18

Aged 18 years with 4 years of normal education. He was affected by Cerebral Palsy at a young age but was treated as mentally retarded. After two years in a Mental-retardation Centre, he failed to adapt and was sent home. Kean Oon always question why there was no place suitable for him to learn.

His father’s friend introduced him to Beautiful Gate Educational Centre at the age of 16, where he managed to adapt to the 1st year course, due to the patience of the teachers. He proves that a cerebral palsy can still be educated if the teachers teach patiently.

Keen Onn has a wish to be a businessman in the future and he is very happy with the lifestyle in Beautiful Gate.

He said, “I have finally found a place suitable for me and Beautiful Gate has given me a new hope.”

Lau Pik Kam, 19

Aged 19 years, totally illiterate. At present she is working hard to be able to write her 123 and ABCs.

She doesn’t like to talk but has a strong desire to be independent so as not to depend on her family. She went to school for one year but stopped, due to the harassment of her classmates. She has been home since then.

At Beautiful Gate Educational Centre, she renewed her quest to learn to read and write and now has learned to do her own cooking and washing.

Pik Kam has acknowledge her appreciation to Beautiful Gate for her 2nd chance to education to lead a meaningful life.

Chan Kin Bing, 15

Aged 15 years. While others in the primary school are able to count & use their money, Kin Bing has just begun to learn what are dollars and cents.

Kin Bing said that he had studied in a Malay School up to Standard Six but did not learn anything except sat in the classroom. His teacher did not even care whether he understood or not.

Kin Bing is now happy to be able to count and do simple Math in Beautiful Gate. The teachers are very patient with him and now he can do his calculation from 1 to 50. Kin Bing reported with confidence, ‘I can go shopping & am able to handle money without making any mistake.’

Kin Bing has also learned the basic computer knowledge and the Chinese Software. In his leisure time, he likes to play with the computer. He can type in simple sentences like a touching note that appeared on the screen when asked for demonstration, ‘Mother loves me.’

Some of Our Teachers

As a retired teacher of 61 years old and a retired school clerk of 65 years old, they should be spending their time enjoying their retirement but they took up the challenge to teach in Beautiful Gate. They are truly touched by their experience in Beautiful Gate.

Mr. Lock said that the students at Beautiful Gate Educational Centre may be slow learners but they are willing learners. With patience, they can be educated. She has always been proud to report the achievements of her students.

Besides her teaching, Mr. Lock counsels his students whenever there is a need and has reported that he himself has in fact benefited from his effort.

Another teacher, Mdm. Wong only plans to use her leisure time to do some volunteering work without realizing that she can get joy in her service. In her soft voice, she commented that from their joy she found joy.
