OKU INTERNATIONAL DAY 2010
Introduction & Objectives
In conjunction with International Day of persons with Disabilities, Society of Independent Living for Disabled Selangor, Beautiful Gate Foundation, Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Japan International Corporation Agency and Heap Hope Angels are co-organizing an OKU International Day 2010, a 3-days event with the aim to fulfill the objectives below: -
- Create public awareness on the importance of barrier free environment and an inclusive society
- Encourage disabled people to live an independent life
- Raise funds for the purchase of disability assistive devices
This event was first held in the year 2009 in Berjaya Times Square, called OKU Convoy 2009 and it was a great success with more than 400 participants turned up for the event. We had various local artists and celebrities supporting the event. We managed to achieve our targeted fund raising amount through contributions from the public during this one day event.
For this year, we would like to continue the effort to celebrate this special day with the disabled community and public at large, and also in our effort to make this a yearly event.

Date : 26th – 28th November 2010
Time : 10a.m. – 9p.m. daily
Venue : Boulevard, Berjaya Times Square
Our event has support of celebrities as well. To date, we have managed to confirm attendances of beauty pageants like Soo Wincci and Cindy Chen together with famous local singers such as Serene (talented song writer & composer), Jeanie (a singer who went all the way to Taiwan to pit against Taiwanese singers), Reizo Zen (famous Michael Jackson impersonator) and Diana Liu, to name a few.
OKU International Day 2010 – Awards Nomination
In conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Society of Independent Living for Disabled Selangor, Beautiful Gate Foundation, Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Japan International Corporation Agency and Heap Hope Angels are co-organising an OKU International Day 2010, a 3-days event at Boulevard, Berjaya Times Square. We are also supported by China Press Daily (Chinese daily), Challenges magazine (Malaysia’s first magazine about disabled) and 988 (Chinese radio station)
There will be a convoy planned along the routes in KL city centre, exhibitions, OKU contest and celebrities performance.
We also have a special OKU Awards Presentation where this will be first ever award presentation to companies by NGOs for being disabled friendly and THEY WILL BE VOTED BY YOU!
